VeteranAid.org was started with the intentions of making the application process for Aid and Attendance easier for Aid and Attendance Benefit FAQ; VeteranAid.orgall veterans and their families who are seeking help with obtaining this benefit.

We are continuing that process by creating a FAQ series on the VeteranAid blog.

So, what if a veteran cannot sign their name on the Aid and Attendance application?

Scenario: My mother is currently incapable of signing her name on the Aid and Attendance form. Her signature is needed in order to complete this application for Aid and Attendance. What can I do?

Unfortunately, your loved one may be at a point in their life where they are not able to easily sign their name. In this case, there are two methods that can be used in substitution that the Veterans Administration will legally accept for the Aid and Attendance application.

1. Have the veteran and/or spouse make an "X" on the line where their signature is required. This "X" must be completed with two witnesses present. Family members can be considered witnesses.

2. Have the veteran use a stamp ink pad (ink pads can be purchased from Walmart, Staples, and other stores) for their thumb and add their thumbprint to the line where the signature is required on the application. Again, this thumbprint must be witnessed by two individuals and these individuals can be family members.
