The Denver Veterans Resources You Need
Denver, also known as the Mile High City, is the gateway to the Rockies. It is centrally located in Colorado and the most populous city in the region. Many veterans have settled in the Denver area due to its proximity to several important military training facilities and bases: Fort Carson, Fort Collins, Schriever Airforce Base, Peterson Airforce Base, and of course, the Airforce Academy is also close by. With so many veterans calling the state their home, Denver and the surrounding areas have built up quite a robust veteran support system. Here are few veteran services, resources and benefits that Denver (and Colorado) veterans can find in their area.
The greatest benefit to many veterans is finding a resource that can connect them to many different services, support systems, community members, and organizations. The Colorado Veterans Resource Portal is that resource. This online website brings together a wealth of information, from education assistance, housing, financial services, legal help, medical facility locations and more. For veterans who are researching different types of aid, this site is a great first step.
For veterans seeking a more personal experience, The Bill Daniels Veteran Service Center, located in Denver, Colorado provides a face to face meeting environment. Veterans can seek guidance and aid across a variety of different areas: housing, employment, ex-military benefits and more. The Denver branch officially opened in August of 2015 and with so many services under one roof, it has quickly become the go-to place for veterans.
For Colorado veterans seeking specific military service benefits information, The Colorado Division of Veterans Affairs, also located in Denver, aids Colorado Veterans in securing benefits they may be entitled to through their service. Unlike some of the other veteran resources, this facility also helps active military.
Created in 2005, American Military Family is a nonprofit headquartered in Brighton, Colorado. The nonprofit’s mission is to help veterans dealing with suicide and other mental or financial difficulties. Their mission is to provide emergency financial assistance, mental health intervention and therapy, and peer support to United States Military Veterans, Troops and their Families who are battling the effects of Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury.
The Denver area also has a complete VA hospital. Since 1951 the Eastern Colorado Healthcare System has provided quality care to veterans in the Denver and Colorado community. Due to the aging of this hospital, the VA has funded the construction of a new one near Aurora. The new VA hospital will be complete in 2018.
