WD AGO Form 53-55 in Lieu of DD-214?

I have just begun to look into A&A for my stepmother who served in the WAC during WWII. She never received a DD Form 214 when she was honorably discharged in May of '47 but we do have a copy of her WD AGO Form 53-55 (predecessor to the DD-214). This photocopy of her WD AGO 53-55 was obtained from the VA in 1972. Do I still need to pursue getting a DD-214?

Your stepmother will not have a DD214. Since the VA sent you the WD AGO Form 53-55, her service time should already be of record and approved. Had she applied for other benefits before? If so, she may not have to start a totally new claim.

Thanks for the clarification. I suspected that a DD-214 would not apply in my stepmom's case. She had applied for some education assistance (tuition, I think) in the early '70s but that is all.

I wanted to suggest that information concerning the WD AGO Form 53-55 should be added to the VeteranAid How to Apply page. The page only mentions the DD-214.
