My grandmother is now 90 years old, widowed and in need of an assisted living facility. My grandparents married seven years after he was discharged from the Navy. Would she be eligible for benefits even though they were not married during the time he was on active duty?

They did not have to be married at the time he was in service for her to be eligible. As long as he was honorably discharged, they were legally married at the time of his death, and she meets the financial qualifications, you should pursue application on her behalf. She is lucky to have a granddaughter watching out over her.
