Retro-active benefits--how far back?

Hi--we filed for benefits for our mom over a year ago and just have been told she has been approved and we should be getting official notice shortly. My question is about how far back benefits may be paid. We've been told the benefits will go back to the date of our original application, but I thought I had read the benefits would go back to the date she first entered assisted living, about six months before we were able to get the application materials in. Did I just mis-remember this?

    Thanks!

First, congratulations on getting through the process and getting the award.

The VA has recently changed policies on the back award, but given the time frame you applied, that won't apply to you.

If her expenses justify at the time you applied, the award will go back to the date you submitted the application.
