My father is a WWII vet living independently with spouse. He can no longer prepare his food and requires constant supervision because he is a risk to wander. A caregiver assists my mother in the care of my father. Income is extremely limited, primarily SS income and below the current income limitation. They do not own their residence. They are tenants. Their combined assets exceed the net worth threshold but if their assets are divided my father's share is below the $80,000 threshold. Is there a consideration of spousal impoverishment in the examination of the financial situation of the family unit when net worth of a veteran applicant is calculated.

The VA will not consider his income or circumstances separate from your Mom's. He would have to disclose assets owned by them both.
