Does the A & A provide funeral expenses for the Vet and also spouse?
Visit www.cem.va.gov to see the allowances for both the veteran and their spouse.
When my veteran father died, my mother submitted the funeral bill that she had paid along with form 21-534. It was deducted from her income, same as a medical expense would be to determine her award as a spouse. She also received an additional 1,000 dollars for burial/plot expense. It was a huge help at a very hard time in her life. It is my understanding, although I am not sure, that this funeral benefit applies only to the spouse of a veteran.
If the veteran has passed away, and you are considering filing for the spouse I would do so as quickly as possible.
Here is an update on a new ruling. http://www.thespectrum.com/story/news/local/mesquite/2014/07/24/va-burial-benefit-made-easier/13133289/
