I'm helping my Grandmother apply for A&A benefits.
She is hoping to move to an assisted living facility, but still lives in an apartment right now.

Can we apply for A&A now or must we wait until she is living in an assisted living facility?
It seems that question 40a on the 21-534 form would be greatly changed. (That's the question about on-going medical expenses.) This amount will increase by about $3700 once she moves in.

Any advice? Such a basic question, I know.
    Thanks for any insight.

You need to wait until she is incurring the expense of being in a facility or services coming into the home. Without this expense, it is doubtful she would qualify financially.

If she has caregivers coming into the apt, she can claim that, and depending on how much she is spending, that could change things to where she would meet the financial threshold.

Please see the link on this forum for Tips and Resouces, and look at "Countable Income".
