First of all, thank you to all for this form. It has been very helpful in filing form # 21 - 534 for my mom. The completed application was mailed certified mail - receipt on July 24, 2012 and the application was recieved at the VA on July 26, 2012.
My question is, when should we " reasonably " expect to recieve a reply of any kind or for any reason or for any request  ?    I can't find that answer on the fourm. Thank you !

Just my own experience with my husbands claim...we did not hear anything for two months.
Then came a request for more info and also the letter that says they have received the claim.
It seems that others have received the confirmation letter much sooner.
I was able to confirm they had received it (besides the return receipt) on the hotline.
Be prepared for a long wait on hold if you call.
Hope this helps... Smiley

Each case is different, and it could be months, or it could be weeks.  Since you have proof of delivery, and you are less than 30 days out, you need to settle down a bit, or you will make yourself crazy.  If no letter in acknowledgement of them having received the applicaiton at the end of 60 days, call just to veryify with them.  As VetWife said, be prepared for a long wait.

Always better to call mid-week, and later in the day to avoid peak call volumes.

Hello everyone I am new to this forum and have been reading everything. My father is a Korean War vet and is no longer able to care for himself after several falls and a heart attack. He leaves physical therapy on Wednesday and will be moving in with me. He needs a walker and is unable to bathe and dress himself, he will also have a cathater. I did not want to put my dad in assisted living because that was his wishes. I will take care of him as long as I can. I am 48 yrs old and just got laid off prior to all of this ( I didnt tell my dad this yet) What if anything can I do for some assistance financially, I will also need a nurse to come in once I find another job. Any info or help will be greatly appreciated. This is all new to me and I need some help..Thanks

You should have your Dad pay you to act as his caregiver, and make application for this pension so that you will have this financial resource to offset his care expenses.  If you return to work and need someone to come in daily, that cost will get pretty expensive quickly.

I would also suggest applying for Medicaid to get in home care.  The application process will take months and is a lot of research work on your part.  An Elder Care Attorney can help out as well but is very expensive (mine was $4000).  He can help you with your research and organize the application however you will still do most of the work.  Good luck.

I thought you could not get both A & A and Medicaid..Has something changed? I thought maximum A & A benefit was only $90.00 or so if Medicaid is involved..Is this not right?

You can be on Medicaid, and A&A, but the max award of A&A with Medicaid is $90.00, which cannot be spent on medical expenses.  It has to be spent on personal items.
