My wife and I are currently caring for her mother (86) yrs old who has be diagnosed with dimentia.  We have been caring for her for nearly 2 years now.  Come to find out that her deceased husband was a WWII Vet so we are getting the paperwork ready to file a claim for AA.  Currently she receives  social security and a small pension from the Federal Reserve (her former employer).  My wife and I are at a point where we cannot care for her needs and are looking into an assisted living facility. Based on the information we have received, it appears that my mother in law will be short about $1200 per month for the assisted living facility.  My wife and I do not have the resources to make up the difference.  Is anybody aware of any other resources available  to carry us over until AA benefits are awarded?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jan

Jan,

I personally do not have any other suggestions to refer you to to offset the costs until the pension comes through.

One thing you can do is keep her at home and have outside services come in to zero out her monthly income.  Once the pension comes through you could make the move to the ALF.  If she gets full award, she would have $1094 to go towards that $1200.

Thank you so much for your advice.  We will get this in place immediately.
