My mother (88) has been receiving  A&A as a surviving spouse, and has been in an ALF for over  1 ½ years now.  She doesn’t have enough money to pay for it, so I make up the difference.  I’m only going to be able to help pay for a few more months. Mother isn’t quite disabled enough to be in a NH, but she isn’t able to care for herself alone, either, due to dementia and various physical conditions.

There isn’t enough SS & A&A to provide for 24 hour care at home.  I work full time, and I don’t have any family to provide any free care. If I do bring her home, can she continue to receive A&A in the following circumstances:

1.  She goes to an adult day care 5 days a week

2.  In-home caregivers are paid up to the full amount of her income  (SS & AA)

3.  She is left at home alone for short periods of time

Thank  you!!

As long as her medically allowable deductions still show her at zero or negative at the end of the month, you will be ok.
