Got my signature on yesterday....besides signing is there any more we can do. Would any letters or calls help?

    Thanks Rita.

It can't hurt to call or write an actual letter, but every time someone signs the petition, the Secretary gets an email.

If you ask all your contacts and connections to sign it, that would be a BIG help!

Just as a heads up, VA already does notify all eligible veterans if they can find them.

The problem is that there is no central database of who is eligible. With 20 million vets, most of whom served before computers were really used and prior to the 1973 fire, there's nothing to track them down and find out who they are or where they live until they apply. Many discharges don't even have Social Security numbers on them. Even if VA knew who someone was, all they would have is a name and a date of birth. That isn't enough information to go on...

I've signed also, thanks for the hard work. This benefit was crucial to my mother's quality of life during her last two years. Sad that we had to accidently stumble upon it. --patrick

Not only inform, but make it actually easier to apply. What a disgrace it is now!
