My local veterans affairs office gave me a care expense statement (to be filled out by my current care giver {my dad}. Is it ok if he states that I pay him nothing? I do pay $500 in rent though.

That's completely up to you, Leo. Keep in mind that you will have to show the VA that you are paying for care in some way or another in order to qualify for the A&A benefit. If that means you have to start paying your dad a certain amount each month to show the need for care - then so be it.

Again, that is completely up to you. Many times in applying for the A&A benefit, a veteran or spouse will pay their family member as the caregiver a monthly fee for helping them. This fee can be counted towards an expense to show on the A&A application. It shows you're paying for care in an ongoing way.
