Hi, My father in law is a veteran, and still doing pretty well, not currently getting any benefits, but his wife has Alzheimers. He is in need of help. They are still in their own home. They do meet the qualifications...  We are in another state, and do what we can. Are they eligible for aid and assistance? If so, do i use form 21-526? It kept talking about surviving spouse... does he have to be gone? Thanks for your help....

The veteran has to qualify in order for the spouse to be eligible.  The only exception would be if her medical expenses depleted their combined monthly income, he could potentially file as a Veteran with a sick spouse.

THe pension amount on this type of case "well vet, unwell spouse, gross income netted uot w/ spouse CARE expenses" is around $1200 a month (i believe).
The vet would also submit his expenses: premiums, Rxs etc.
