All,

I just wanted to take a moment and update my experience with the Fiduciary process.

I met with the VA rep last month for the interview.  This took place 4 months after the incompetency process was completed.
The rep was very professional and really understood the process.  He called me the day before and asked me to meet at Dad's ALF and bring the following:

- his latest bank statement.
- social security award letter
- list of monthly expenses
- 2 references

Upon his arrival, he checked up on Dad, saluted him, and thanked him for his service!

We then reviewed the process.  He told me that:

- I can use his current account by converting it to a custodial account
- No non-recurring expenses over $1,000 without prior VA notification
- Direct Deposit will be stopped and then restarted after the custodial account is set up
- Non direct deposit funds will be sent to me by check
- Back lump sum payment will be made in 30-45 days
- Dad's file is now in the St. Petersburg, FL regional office and to call them in the future with any issues (not the pension center)

He filled out all of the necessary forms, reviewed his expenses with me, had me sign and that was it.

Today i received confirmation that i have been appointed as a Federal Fiduciary.  My remaining task is to set up the custodial account and send/fax the form back to the regional office.

Best regards,

Eric

Eric,

Thanks for sharing your experience so that everyone can have a better understanding of the process.

I have to say that I am pleased that they saluted your dad.  That was a classy thing to do.

Congratulations for making it through all of this!  Yes, it can be done.
