I am on a rather desperate search for some home care for my mom. My dad was a vet, he passed away in 2004 and was a resident of our local vet's home. Mom is considered blind, due to severe macular degeneration. She has Medicare and a supplement. I have called home care agencies, but they say she doesn't qualify for Medicare paid home care because she doesn't need a skilled nurse. She has balance issues and frequent falls, in addition to her eye sight problems.
I live with her, because she can't live alone. Her house was bigger, so I sold mine and moved in with her. I work full time from home, but her constant need for help and to have things done is interfering with my work and what little free time I have.
Before I start on all the paperwork, do you think there's a chance she would qualify for help? I am the only child that lives in the same town, the rest are quite far away. I am thinking of having them start the process, because I am worn out and have such little free time.
I would love some input, she owns her house and has stock. Other than that she gets social security and a small pension from dad's last employer. She doesn't need lots of help, just a few hours a day would be great.

Nancy,
Welcome to the forums, and I hope we can help you figure things out.
Based on what you have shared, your mom would qualify physically. Your dad's service has to meet reqirements in order for your mom to quailfy, and she needs to meet the income means test. I have sent you an email for some additional assistance.
