I have done a lot of research and talking with VA reps, people at assisted living facilities etc. As far as I have been able to find the only financial assistance for a unremarried spouse of a vet serving in a qualifying period of wartime is $976 widows pension. Has anyone found, to the contrary? For example other financial assistance than the widows pension of
$976 for someone in assisted living?  Thanks.

The widow of a veteran is entitled to a reduced amount of this pension.  This dollar amount is correct for the surviving spouse.

Hope this answers your question.

My father, a veteran of World War II, passed away in March of 2007. My mother resides in a nursing home, she receives social security each month and has had long-term insurance, which will run out the end of 2007. Could someone please tell me about the widows benefits of 976.00. I am not clear on what would make my mother eligible or ineligible. Thanks for the help.
