Has anyone gone through the process of "renouncing VA benefits"...apparently the benefit has caused income problems with North Carolina Medicaid guidelines and this is the suggested route to take to take care of the issue. Would love any advice, tips, etc with this very serious issue for my elderly mother who cannot afford to start private pay at this late date!

A&A should not cause a problem with NC Medicaid.  I'm a licensed atty in NC and am not sure why you would have issues.  I suggest contacting a local elder law attorney to discuss this further before you renouce the VA benefit.  You can check www.naela.org to find an elder law atty in your area
