I have completed the package and am ready to submit it. I inquired about A&A a few months ago and the rep at the local va was retiring and a new guy was taking over. I think I might be better off dealing with the VA directly. I live in central Connecticut . Does anyone have the address that I can send the package to?

I am also about to file for A&A - I live in Baton Rouge, LA - where is there a list of correct mailing addresses so I can confirm.  This is our regional office but not sure if it is the right place to mail the forms:

1250 Poydras Street
New Orleans, LA 70113

Thanks,
Lori Rutland

Thank you for all you do to help others!

I am hopeful we will qualify.  I knew about the aid last year but thought my mother-in-law did not qualify as her husband joined the Army in Feb 1946.  Just recently saw the dates extended until Dec. 1946 for WWII.

She has no assets - no house, no car, not credit cards, no 401K, etc.  She is in the dementia memory care unit at an Assisted Living facility for $3250/month with $2085 in monthly social security (her only income) and about $25K left in savings.  She has 0 cost basis.  I am hopeful she will qualify for the full amount.  Her husband died Sept 2009 and I read somewhere that if you apply within a year, they backdate the payments.  I hope that is true as it will really help her out.

We are meeting Thursday night with a local A&A/Elder Law attorney to have her verify I have everything filled out accurately and then we will mail via return receipt.  Do they go by the date mailed or the date received as the application date?

Thanks for all your advise and guidance.

Lori

Lori,

You are welcome and I hope that everything will work out for her.

On the part of qualifying for the previous year, you will not be able to go after that money as you had not made application for the pension yet.

If you are not satisfied with your meeting, there is another Elder Law Attorney, Ronda Gabb in LA that may be another resource for you.  You can find her information in the Directory on our website.

Good luck with everything.
