Hi!   I'm just starting research and have a quick question.   My father in law is the veteran, but my mother in law is the one who is housebound and unable to take care of herself.     He devotes all of his time to taking care of her.  They will qualify based on money, time served, etc, but would they qualify since she is the one who is medically unable to take care of herself, not him?

Thanks!

The vet has to qualify for the pension.  If he is not in need at this time, which appears to be the case, then the other option would be if her medical expenses completly wipe out their combined monthly income, he could file as a vet with a sick spouse and be eligible for $1266 a month.  You cannot file for this pension based on her needs alone.

The rate for a vet plus spouse is $1291 per month this year.  There is not an additional allowance for a spouse who needs aid and attendance unless he is in receipt of compensation.

I stand corrected.  It is the $1291 rate.

Thanks for noting that Max.
