My 87-year-old father was recently award Basic Pension as well as A & A. His condition has improved somewhat compared to when the application was submitted; i.e, he currently pays in-home professional caretakers less than the award. I need advice on how to report the change of status, return unused funds, yet not jeopardize his future receipt of more funds that he will inevitably need. Thanks.

The award amount is not related to the amount he spends. It is related to the total amount of gross income he spends.
Stop.
THe award is based on him spending his current income (not the award) on CARE.
If he has 1000 of gross income and spends 1000 on Care & Medical he (single vet) would recieve 1644.
If he has 2000 of gross income and spends 2000 on Care & Medical he would recieve 1644
If he spends 100% or of his gross then he gets the full award.
If he is now spending LESS than his income then he would report that.
If he has 1000 of gross income and spends 800 on Care & Medical he (single vet) would recieve 1444.
If he has 2000 of gross income and spends 1800 on Care & Medical he would recieve 1444
The award is not a factor if he spends it or not.
