We filed for benefits in October 2009 and are still waiting...In the meantime, my father has depleted his savings account and also had to move to a facility that provides a higher level of care. The BIG question is do I leave it alone or should I submit the new information?  Like most of us, I've encountered one roadblock after another in trying to obtain benefits.

If your original regust qualified for the full award available, then I would not send in the change.

Wouldn't she need to submit a change to show the additional expenses associated with the higher level of care?

I had to wait 19 months for my mother's A&A checks to begin. But the last year (before the VA checks began), I paid more than 50% of her expenses and thus got to deduct her medical expenses off of my Income Taxes. Don't overlook that possibility. It amounted to $14k refund for that year, as she was in assisted living due to ALZ, and her rent was considered a medical expense.
