vetadmin,

If some one can't cook or can't drive and lives at Independent living, my take is that the independent living costs are deductable.

“Allow all reasonable fees paid to the facility as long as the facility provides some medical or nursing services for the disabled person.  These services do not have to be furnished by a licensed health professional.”

They trigger A&A or Homebound by the 2 pg dr letter. If the doc say 'you can't live at home alone or you can't drive" then the indi becames 'perscribed'.

Also I had a friend's dad who was 'legally blind' but lived in an Indi in Tyler Texas get approved. the VA allowed the full amount of the rent to be decucted against the Vets income.

what are your thoughrts?

There has to be a medical need proven.  Housekeeping is not one of them.

You can be in independent facility, but  have outside services coming in, or medical responders on site that are providing services.  In many of these cases, the VA awards the Housebound level of the pension.

Being legally blind would be an automatic qualifyer.
