Mother was approved for Aid and Attendant in 2008 -- her health, but not her income.

We have resubmitted income and expense info several times.

We were told 2 weeks ago she was approved --via our local Senator's office. Still no official letter or check.

We have been told - again via Senator's office...the check is being processed, they needed to verify she had not remarried.

Mom is totally out of money, we are behind on nursing home bills...and still we wait.

Any solid advice? Call another Senator's office? I don't know if they have the same contact because when we call the 800 number...they don't even have copies of the paperwork we sent.

At this point to trying to involve another Senator is not recommended.  This will only complicate matters even more.

We would recommend you contact the Senator you have been working with and let them know the VA says they have no claim information and ask your Senator for copies of the records they have showing the status of the application.

Something does not seem quite right here and obviously with your financial situation, getting resolution needs to be expedited.  Hopefully they will be able to help.

Our thoughts for this all getting worked out are with you.

Please keep us posted.

you should also be applying for your state Medicaid program. you said you are out of money? 1056 certainly isn't all you need to pay the full bill?
VA benifits and Medicaid Programs work hand in hand. although the are some who think that medicaid is bad and VA is good.  Actually the opposite.
once on Medicaid, then the VA reducess to 90 butmom gets to keep it.
And regaurdless of what anyone trys to say, you recieve the same care either private pay or medicaid.  It's illegal to do otherwise.

Nobody deserves Medicaid more than our elders. They worked and payed taxes all their life.  Your Mom should be able to qualify for Medicaid. I worked at a skilled nursing facility for 10 years and my staff working the floor were never made aware of the residents pay source.  Besides Medicaid's reimbursement was very close to what we charged our privtae pay residents. . The application  process may take a while to go thru, depending on what State your in, but hang in there it will happen.  The nursing home can not boot your Mom while she is  Medicaid pending. :)Good Luck!
