If we go the route of hiring help to assist mom at home with managing meds, etc. (but not skilled nursing) will this qualify for medical expenses for purposes of applying for A & A benefits?  She is severely diabetic and basically homebound (unless we take her out).  She can give herself the actual insulin injections,  just gets so confused and cannot remember to eat meal, take BS reading or take the insulin.  That's why we are looking into a home companion service.  Mom is a widow of veteran.

Yes, it will qualify for medical expenses for purposes of applying for A&A benefits.  In addition, the person does not have to be a licensed, medical person.  It can also be a family member.  The key is that your Mom must have records (cancel checks) to show that she paid and for how much.
