First I would love to say, THANK YOU....for the start of this discussion. My story is a long complicated one. First of all hubby is an army vet. He had a 5 bypass back in 97 at 44 years old. Lots of damage to his heart ended up with 20 percent of his heart. Applied over the years for ssd, but had the wrong kind of lawyer and the lawyer ended up writting him off of ssd before he ever got on it..so needless to say since 1987 and appeals after appeals he got nothing..Ok, so now the va here, in st petersburg baypines has treated him since 2000 they are incredible. He was awarded 100 percent disability non service related for his heart. He has diabities, pacemaker defibulator. Had cartoid artery on leftside done three years ago, now two weeks ago found out his rightside is 98 percent clogged. Also found his ejection fraction now is 14 percent and advised him to be put on a heart transplant list...SIGH...they also came in to talk to him about aid and attendance. Being he had a few strokes, mini ones..he doesnt remember much, but said the guy who spoke to him said I should quit work and care for my husband..so question, who pays my bills...I would have no medical, no nothing. I work only 4 days a week, 30 hours or less, and have severe arthritis...but need to work for medical for myself. Ok enough of me...I read, that a wife cant be his caregiver? And will he get aids and assistance if I continue to work? I thank you for any help, just thought I would start here before I make an apt. to see this guy...Thanks again for this incredible site...I forwarded it to a couple of friends of mine...

Since he is rated at 100%, he can submit a VA form 21-4138 Statement in Support of Claim along with a Physician's Statement stating that he now requires the assistance of another for his day-to-day living and be eligible for another $654 (approximate) a month.  Because he is 100% he does not need to provide financial information.

This should allow you to continue to work, and keep your insurance and afford to have someone come in for him.

For the record, the spouse can be the caregiver, they just can't charge for it that way another family member or outside help can.
