Hi,

First, thank you for this site.  If Mom ever gets qualified for a benefit, the first thing we will do is make a contribution to keep this site going!

I submitted my mother's claim based on my late father's service in December.  She received a response this week stating - and I quote.  "During the veteran's lifetime, service connection was not considered for aortic aneurysm ..." (goes on to list all of the findings in the autoposy)... "In order to suppport your claim, you need to submit evidence that shows a disablitity was incurred or aggravated during service and was the primary or contributory cause of death."

They went on to state that form 21-4138 - "Statement in Support of Claim" was enclosed and I needed to complete it.

I didn't think my father's death had to be service related for my mother to qualify for Aid and Attendance.

If I am correct should I just state that on the form - that the Aid and Attendance Widow's benefit does not require the veteran's death to be service realted, and mail it back in?

Thanks in advance.

Fred

No, word it like this:
Regarding the letter date ____, ref: ##/##/### I am sorry for the confusion, I was applying for Initial Death Pension with aid and attendance, not compensation (DIC).

Thank you for processing my claim as a claim for Pension and suspending your research for DIC.
