Medical Examination Form

I’m a little frustrated with my friend’s doctor! She has been awarded the Housebound Benefit, but the VA needs some clarification from her doctor before awarding her A&A. I have tried to intervene and explain that they are looking for very specific language on the 21-2680 Medical Exam form, but the doctor just assumes she’s a shoo-in because it’s so clear to him that she’s in need from a physical standpoint. Some of the doctor’s comments are a bit vague and if very specific descriptions of her condition would have been given in the first place, there would have been no problem with her form at all. I know that the VA needs specific information in writing, even if it is clear to those observing. I cannot seem to convince them that they need to be very specific in their comments. Any advice?

You are correct, and it does need to be spelled out. They need to say that the patient needs assistance with their day-to-day living, etc. Please try again and assure him that he you have this from a reliable source. Point him to the fact they only awarded the Housebound level based on his report.
Your friend is lucky to have you helping.

Thanks so much for your reply! I assume we are not constrained by time-limits with this form, as we are instructed to notify them in writing of any new information or changes. I assume it wouldn't hurt anything to go ahead and send in another form with more descriptive information, even if the old form is on file? Correct?
