Hi,

I am trying to accumulate as much info as possible regarding the aid and attendance benefits. My grandfather served in WWII. From what I understand, him and my grandmother would be eligible for up to $1905 a month for their pension. However, the VA states that the aid and attendance and housebound benefits are paid in addition to the regular pension. Does this mean that these benefits are on a need to need basis? My grandparents are both disabled. MY grandfather would definitely qualify for A&A and my grandmother may even qualify for housebound. They currently have 24 hr in home care. Does this mean that they will be able to receive financial aid with this and other medical expenses IN ADDITION to the $1905 a month or is the $1905 the only aid they will be able to get? Please help me.

There are 3-levels to Improved Pension.  The first level is Basic, and a veteran qualifies for that level when they turn 65 or become disabled.  As needs increase, a veteran or widow are eligible for the higher levels.

You need to determine his service dates make him eligible, and if so, and they are paying for care and services, then you should explore making application for A&A filing as a veteran with spouse.

A 3.6% COLA went into affect Dec 1st, so a veteran and spouse are eligible for $2,020.00 a month.

Thank you so much!!!! So, your saying that they may be able to receive more financial help than the $2020, correct? Sorry to sound over-meticulous, just want to make sure!!!

No, the $2,020 is the max for this pension unless the veteran is rated by the VA at 100% for "service connected" injuries.
