My father (Veteran) is the primary caregiver for my mother who has Dementia with Alzheimer's disease.  It has been recommended that she receive day care services which my father can't afford to pay for himself.  If I help pay the medical costs associated with mom's care, will that negatively affect the amount of benefit he will be eligible for under the aid and assistance program?  Getting ready to apply for this benefit for them.

Thank you!

The Veteran has to be in need of assistance in order for the spouse to be eligible.  Since it sounds as though your Dad is not currently in need, but is rather acting as the caregiver himself for your mom, you cannot file for her.

If her medical expenses completely deplete their combined monthly income, he can file as a Veteran with a sick spouse and be eligible for up to $1291 a month.
