What is 'letter of intent to file' and is it necessary?

Hi All,

I have gathered almost all of the documents necessary to file a completed application. But I've been reading comments on here and many talk about an Intent to File Form. Is that a necessary first step?

Also, my grandmother receives 3475.00 per month from SS and her pension. Her medical expenses are under 1000 (750/month for caregiver) and her rent is 2000/month. She has no other income or assests.

Can she expect to receive the full benefit amount?

When  you say her "rent" is $2,000 a month, is this at an Assisted Living facility or private residence?  If private residence, she cannot count that as a medical deduction, and given the amounts you have stated, she would be over the financial threshold to qualify.
