We are stunned, and delighted! And grateful! Here's the short version: My mother-in-law is a WWII Navy veteran. For the last year and a half or so, she had been living in a "retirement home" (which provided no personal care), and, as her care needs increased, we could foresee that she would soon need to move to an assisted living facility. We sent a letter to the regional VA in March, which they logged in as an Intent to Apply. They sent us an acknowledgment letter and assigned a file number. Then I discovered your website and began to understand the application process. As I wrote in my earlier post, I really studied all the info on your website and began to gather and organize all the information and documentation you recommended. I took my time, because she didn't actually move into the ALF until July. When I put the application together, I didn't use a binder or dividers--I just binder-clipped it all together with a cover letter and put it into a folder. Since she is 88, I did request in the cover letter that they expedite her application. I wrote the file number on top of every page, then I copied everything, and kept the copies. We sent the application via Fed Ex to the Pennsylvania regional office on August 2nd. Her approval letter arrived today--in just over 3 weeks!!!!! Thank you so much, Debbie. Without this website and the clear directions you have provided, we would still be scratching our heads and wondering how and when to apply. You provide a wonderful service. We are very grateful.
