My husband is almost 70, and in relatively good health.  However, he receives no pension and only has Social Security.  We do have more than $80,000 between us, so I wonder if he would be eligible to collect a pension from the VA.  He served for 6 years in the 60's.  It was suggested he file, but I think he may be wasting his time.

Check out the thread "Basic Qualifications for Aid & Attendance" just above this one.

You do not need to be in one of these categories to qualify for pension benefits.  You only need to be in one of these categories if you want to apply for aid and attendance.  He may still qualify for regular pension benefits.  I suggest you apply as he is relatively young and SSA is not a lot to live on in most cases.
