Hello,
Trying to get my parents signed up for A&A pension. Looks like a great place to get some questions answered. Dad's 91 & U.S. Marine vet, Mom's 86, not a vet but eligible as spouse. They are both in an assisted living facility now & paying down savings. I'm the son, have P.O.A. & trying to do this out of state.

Since they are already in an Assisted living facility, can they just fill out the "Nursing Home Status Statement" in lieu of the "Physicians Statement"(VA 21-2680), or do they need both?

Does the "Nursing Home Status Statement" apply to assisted living facilities or strictly Nursing homes?

I have other questions on finances, but will save for another posting.
Thanks so much for what all you nice folks do to help us that are going through such a hard times. It's very much appreciated!

Dave,

Welcome!

Let me suggest that you read through the FAQ section on the site and the other tabs regarding filing.  The POA won't do you any good with the VA, and no on the Nursing Home status.  Yes, you do have to have a Dr's eval done on both of them.  On the 21-526 you will just corss out NH and put ALF.

You will want to do a Statement of Occupany from their ALF, and make certain that you include a 21-0845 Approved 3rd Party when you do send it in.

Also on the website you need to look up their state to make sure you send to the correct Pension Center, and mail Return Receipt.

It will take some time on your part, but everything you need is on the site and these forums.
