My parents are in an assisted living facility and have been since 10/15/2010, both are in need of aid & attendance. My dad is USMC Ret. Their monthly fee for assisted living is $3750, there income is $3500. I was advised when filling out the application, that it was not necessary to use any medical information pertaining to my mother (?), who has Alzheimers! I received the award letter 4 days ago. My parents were awarded the grand total of $70 a month!! I've been waiting for Mr. Funk to come out and tell me it's all a joke??!! We are now $9000 behind on the assisted living bill. We'll all been waiting for the VA to approve my parents for the maximum benefit AND pay the retroactive balance. From what I can tell, due to not having any medical info on my mom, the assisted living fee was divided in half therefore it appears dad has plenty of income to pay for the balance each month. Has this happened to anyone else?? I'm praying all I need to do is send medical documentation on my mom and all will be resolved. I need some encouragement please!! Anybody??!! A Desperate Daughter!

You need to do a 21-4138 Statement in Support of Claim along with the Dr's physical evaluation of your mom.  The application should have been for a vet with spouse and they should have gotten the full award based on the medical as they are in the negative at the end of the month.  The ALF should not have divided it.  They need to put the total costs for both of them in the Statement of Occupancy.

I would include a cover letter clearly stating that the application was not processed for your dad and mom and submit the supporting medical expenses for her.
