Hello All,

We are applying for the VA A & A for my 90+ year old parents, both of whom are wartime vets. We are very grateful for this excellent forum. We have 2 questions about medical expenses:

1. For everyday medical expenses such as adult diapers, OTC and prescription medicines, bandages, dietary supplements, etc., what does the VA require as proof of these expenses? Do they need copies of all the individual receipts, or would a monthly bank statement and credit card statement be sufficient?
2. How far back should we go in listing the medical expenses?

Thanks again for your all your kind assistance. It is greatly appreciated.

Adult diapers do not count as a medical expense, nor does some of the other items you have listed.

Expenses are counted from the date of application.  Please see this link to help you better understand what is an allowable expense and how to arrive at what their "countable" income is for VA purposes.
