My dad is 88 and a WWII veteran with Alzheimer's. I'm trying to get my dad into an Alzheimer's Unit using his Medicaid, he can barely make it with his pension and Social Security, he just barely skims under the amount a person can bring in each month with the two sources combined. i will have to cash in one of his small insurance policies on face value because with it, he has too much money coming in each month ie. it has to be under $2,000. If he does get into a unit and we applied for the A&A won't that be considered income? If he does get into a Unit whether it's assisted living or Alzheimer's he's only allowed up to $60 a month. Wouldnt' that just go back into the Govt's waiting hands as income that Dad is getting each month? The same goes for if he has it and tried to get into a Medicaid Alz Unit, it's considered part of the income, correct?
Someone suggested we try to put him into a Veteran's Home but it looks like it'd take forever to get him in one and even that would take jumping over all the hoops and barrels that the Govt system requires, right?
Right now we're having a problem with his TB test, it's somewhat positive and he just had a chest X-Ray that looks like it might be negative but now the doc has to send it to the hospital for a second opinion, sighhhh. Every five years I try to get him into an assisted living or now an Alz unit, but it gets more difficult every time and the TB test looks worse each time too! Thanks for your help! Diane
