Are these type people worth paying?

It seems every assisted living knows "somebody" who works to try to get people through the VA paperwork...for a consulting fee. I would appreciate hearing whether anyone has had good success with these kinds of people. I assume some of them are legitimate, but I've talked with a couple whose personalities are like steamrollers and I'm not sure I could manage sitting down with them.

The telling of the tape here, is if they are trying to sell you a financial product or gain control of an estate, they stand to make a very handsome commission, which tells you all you need to know.

Keep in mind the ALF is a business and if they are not at 100% occupancy they are losing money with a bed they want to fill. 

There is only one company that I know of who does an analysis and does not sell anything.  I have the highest respect for them, and if you want to know more, email me.

I agree with Debbie.  There are many financial planners who really just want to sell products.

However, there are quite a few reputable folks who charge a consultation fee that is worth paying for.  Because attorneys and agents cannot charge for the filing of an application, many charge a consultation fee and then assist with the application for free.  This can be a great resource in helping you fill out and send in the correct paperwork and answer questions that come up during the approval process.  I suggest that you meet or talk with them and if you don't get a good feeling, or don't see the value, then don't do it.  There is no one right solution for everyone.
